Love Skunk Anansie. Alongside Muse they are probably my favourite band so I was well chuffed when I heard they
were getting back together again, all former differences apparently set aside. (Coughs: need the money). They are brilliant live. Skin has an amazingly powerful voice that is note perfect. She really goes for it and also has a penchant for jumping into the audience which, naturally, goes down a storm.
Thursday night was not only the final gig on their European tour but also, it being Brixton, Skin's home turf so it held a lot of promise.
And there was nothing to disappoint. Skin was on top form, dancing around with her usual verve in a gold sequined one-piece and jumping into the audience for a bit of crowd surfing, all the time maintaining a note perfect performance.
She was a chatty mood too and during the first encore persuaded security to let about six or seven people up on the stage to jump around with her. At the end of the song she climbed onto the drum stack beckoned the on stage audience to gather in close in front of her and then staged-dived into their arms.
Fab welcome back gig playing the best of their three albums and a handful of new tracks that appear on their new greatest hits album. They also play an as yet unrecorded track which Skin described as being about "f*cking". Indeed the f-word featured quite heavily in the lyrics in typical Skunk Anansie style.
Lets just see how long they can get on with each other this time.
Oh and the support band, which we caught the last few songs of were quite good to. Most unlike the usual supports. They were called The Chemists, see if you can spot their pic in the bunch below. Pics were taken by Melanie as I, in a rare moment of restraint, decided to leave my camera at home.
Muse played a couple of songs at the special concert put on at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC's annual Children in Need fundraiser - this is Undisclosed Desires. It was the same night as their second 02 gig - traffic from west to east London on a wet Friday night must have been fun.
A bit of canny marketing from the Devon lads, while I'm still buzzing from the O2 gig on Thursday I get an email announcing a Wembley date for next year. Tickets go on sale next week, you know I'm gonna...
Meanwhile here are all the pics from Thurs:
Just got back from seeing Muse. Brilliant as ever. Played a good mix of old and new stuff - just enough off the new album which suited me. No Stockholm Syndrome though.
Fab stage set and lights as you would expect from Muse playing an arena. Took loads of pics which need a severe edit but here are a three I've quickly grabbed off the camera. Need to go to bed and get some sleep now, got a busy day at work tomorrow :0(
Loved their version of the classic Feeling Good and now they are at it again, for the MTV Awards, but this time they are taking the Broadway location of the ceremony as their influence and covering America from West Side Story. I'm hoping it makes it on to the set list for their gigs...
Nicked this from Minim although I have edited it a bit as I get the impression it was originally devised as a bit of sly market research for computer manufacturers. Haven't done one for ages but I really like reading them...
Alcohol: Wine and at the moment I'm going through a rosé phase
Believe in God?: No I don't believe in God or Gods

D&D character: Adam. He's the only person I know who plays
Eggs: Soft boiled, gotta love a runny yolk

Gemstone: Er...only have semi precious that I've made into necklaces and the choice of stone depends on the colour scheme

Karaoke choice: Private performances only, my voice is best not shared
Left or right handed: right
Music: Oh gawd this is tricky because it totally depends on my mood and what I'm doing. My favourite band is Muse and I do lean towards guitar-based music but I listen to all sorts from Classic FM at work to Edith Piaf on a sunny Sunday morning
Nationality: British
Occupation: Journalist

Yesterday I: Cleaned the windows, hoovered, met a friend for tea and cake at Patisserie Valerie in Soho, bought friends membership at the Royal Academy and went to the breathtakingly beautiful John Waterhouse exhibition there, went to see Broken Embraces at the Clapham Picture House. (I had the day off work, my Friday's aren't normally so indulgent)
Zodiac sign: I'm full of bull
Great interview with the band on Times Online. As tongue in cheek as Matt Bellamy is I still think he's a bit scary. Or maybe because that's I'm just in awe?
Just found this little interview Muse did with Radio 1's Zane Lowe about the new album. Haven't commented before but I love the new single Uprising. An instant hit in the Stanley household that had me dancing around the kitchen. Bit of a relief because I really wasn't sure about United States of Eurasia when I heard it.
Latest on the album and tour from Dom on Muse's MySpace page *excited all over again*:
Hi,
So, I think,,, we've actually finished the album. Its all mixed so we are just listening to it a lot to really make sure its done but we seem to be agreeing it is.
It sounds f**king great and is my favorite album by far, but the new ones always are.!
September is hopefully the month of kick off but there are still lots of things to get together before then. Like learning how to play these songs live for one.. That should take a while!Just want to say thanks to everyone who bought tickets for the tour in the autumn. We are immensely looking forward to it but also can only apologize for some idiot touts that are selling tickets for £200 - £600 in certain places. Obviously this has nothing to do with the band and not something we condone at all. We can try our best to try and prevent this but as you can imagine its quite hard. All our tickets are a fixed price and spending more than that is not something we expect. But keep posted as some more tickets for some shows may get released later down the line.
Anyway, see you guys soon,
Dom.
Muse ticket day dawned.
At work 8.59am computer on, reloading the page until the magic 'buy tickets' appear. And there it was date and seats chosen click and the overwhelming demand message comes up so I was off refreshing like crazy. Three windows open, refreshing each in turn. Agonising over the bit that said wait 30 seconds to refresh.
Would my constant refreshing put me to the back of the cyber queue?
Swapping emails with a colleague about each others progress
You got anything yet?
No
Neither have I
Starting to despair thinking it a conspiracy, planning attack for general sale release tomorrow
Oh god we'll be in the pigeon seats
It was a tense 30 mins and then lo the magic payment screen appeared. Further tense seconds ticked away as I frantically punched in my details
What if the site crashes or something half way through and it's sold out before I get on again?
Then the second magic screen came up: 'You have bought seat tickest for Muse on blah blah' but wait, then my heart sank: 'this is not a confirmation'. That apparently was to be sent to my (home) email within the next 4 hours.
The next FOUR hours!!!
And subject to the funds being successfully transferred from my chosen credit card.
What if I put the credit card number in wrong???
So now I was logged onto the webmail page of my home internet provider and refreshing that every ten minutes to check for new messages.
Finally the golden confirmation came through but still subject to payment being received.
I daren't check my email for the rest of the day just in case. But there have been no other messages since so now I'm allowing myself to get excited. I don't know what seats we've got but they are fan pre-sale tickets so I'm hopeful but above all
I'M GOING TO SEE MUSE!!!!
To celebrate here is the opening track (well after their classical intro music) from the the last live gig I saw of theirs which just puts the biggest grin on my face and never fails to make me jump around and do silly things like attempt to play air guitar
