My sister lives in a shitty 20th century village in Fife, Scotland. It was built to house local miners during the 50s. Of course the mines have all closed down now and there is high unemployment and the associated problems.
Fortunately it is only a mile from the deeply historic and picturesque village of Culross. And there are some great walks along the Firth of the Forth which has been ravaged by industry over the years but still has a great deal of charm and beauty. On a recent visit to my sisters I had time to take her beautiful miniature daschund, Schnitz, out for a walk along the edge of the salt flats on the Firth, near to Culross.
It was a beautiful evening; mild, lightly breezy, late blooming sun, an oasis between some otherwise torrid weather, the whole country had been experiencing.
Here are some of the photo's I took (on my camera phone)
Went for a walk with my sister, nephew and Schnitz the dog along the Firth of the Forth to a village called Limekilns. It's an industrial area, historically and still. Limekilns, as the name hints, was the centre of lime production in Scotland during the industrial revolution but fell into decline after concrete replaced lime as the building material of choice in the 1950's.
The old limekilns are right next to the harbour which is pretty neglected now but further down the shore you can see the cranes in the new ship yards and the road and rail bridges to Edinburgh.
I didn't have my proper camera on me so had a little play with my camera phone and am quite pleased with the results:
My sister and I decided to head to my parents place to keep my step dad company as he's in hospital and was unable to attend a family wedding yesterday. Must admit that I had a big incentive other than family duty and that was a chance to see my nephew Daniel's new puppy Schnitz or Chip as I think she should be called. She is a miniature daschund and would fit easily in my handbag and I'm in love, as you can tell. Mosh must be credited for his superb photography (plenty more in my collections down the page) and film clips...
